The Chestnut Prospector model was a favourite of Bill Mason. To quote from Path of the Paddle "... but it is pointless to engage me in debate when it comes to choosing the perfect canoe. For me, it's no contest. The Chestnut prospector sixteen-foot canoe wins on all points." His recommendation of the Prospector as a good all around tripping canoe was definitely a factor when I chose to build my first cedarstrip canoe to this pattern.
It took a little over a year to build this first cedar strip canoe. I worked entirely outdoors, not having the luxury of my own garage at the time.
